There was more than just a Presidential election

This past Tuesday influences law librarians more than just with water cooler talk and tax cuts. Many states had judicial elections and in some races there was surprising turnover at the state Supreme Court level. The ABA Journal notes that the Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice lost in a "stunning upset" and the Clarion Ledger out of Jackson, Miss. also notes that Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Jim Smith was victim of "a major upset" in losing his race. In Mississippi it is interesting to note that 4 of the 9 positions were up for election (one was a special election) with 3 incumbents losing. Is this further fallout of a Bush White House endangering conservatives or just typical judicially cycling?

If you live in a state with some interesting judicial election news feel free to comment. {bb}
